Usually life’s greatest gifts come wrapped in adversity

Writing, Packing, Working

Writing

I am finishing off the final touches for my sharing for the “commissioning” service at church, which is happening tomorrow. I’ve been typing out and editing the speech that I originally wrote in my journal, and the process is somewhat frustrating because I have so much to say and yet only 10 minutes to say it all. Here’s to speaking quickly!

Also, I say quote unquote “commissioning” because my pastor told me he’s changed the wording in tomorrow’s bulletin. Apparently, it’s not a “commissioing” service perse, and he’s not going to be giving me a “charge” but a “message” to encourage me personally during the English Service (not joint service, fyi). I really don’t want to care or make a big deal out of it, but as the first congregation member who has grown up in this church and is pursuing full-time ministry and seminary, I find that this will be a defining moment for Jaffray. As a church, how this send-off service is going to be conducted will create a precedence for how the church leadership treats future seminarians from the Jaffray’s own congregation.

For the good of the body and the glory of God, I really hope that more people would be encouraged by the service tomorrow — to step up and answer God’s call to worship and to service, to boldly speak the truth in love and love the truth humbly :-)

I am also playing bass and serving on worship team tomorrow. My pastor said I didn’t have to, but for myself and for God Himself, I actually want to be serving for my last service there. It’s looking to be a vibrant time of worship where our team can hopefully encourage the congregation to give an all-consuming response to the all-deserving revelation of God.

Packing

In terms of packing, I’ve filled up most of the big suitcase I am lugging to Louisville. I’ve gone through the daunting task of picking which shirts I should bring, for I honestly cannot bring all of them! I just have to wash and pack some more clothes I currently have in the hamper, as well as some odds and ends of computer peripherals that I need. I think the most work I have for myself here is getting my desktop ready for my mom to use permanently, and reinstalling Windows on my Centrino laptop which I am giving to my sister. Goodbye Magdalene, and say hello to a new MacBook next Saturday (must decide on a name for her!). I’m holding off lugging too much stuff over, so I’ll be buying many things once I arrive in Louisville.

Working

I mean this in terms of my blog/website here. After upgrading to the latest WordPress build (yes, I delayed it, but found this great Automatic Upgrade plugin that really helps), I also had to upgrade my theme and style — which unfortunately, doesn’t display my current layout properly in all its ajax-ified glory. I’ve been modifying a some new themes I want to use, but I still haven’t found one that’s just as functional and nice looking as my current theme. So honestly, this is becoming too much work than necessary, much more than I imagined. Something I am learning, however, is that I cannot find a theme that I really really like AND I am really picky about it too!

Anyways, hopefully I can decide on a new theme soon–or fix this current theme.  Ahh, so frustrating!
