Not worth dying for

I haven’t had time to read the excerpt from Rob Bell’s book, “Sex God”, that’s in Christianity Today… I have a lot to read and that piece just was at the pit in terms of priority. That was the case until last night, when I was compelled to read what in the world Bell has said. Understand this, it is in typical emerging ooze fashion that Bell’s written theology causes many people to discuss his eye-brow raising ideas, and of course, igniting much controversy with those who don’t embrace such a version of emerging Christianity.

With that said, I must refute the premise of that entire article/book chapter: people are not worth dying for. This may be off topic and out of context from the chapter’s main point, but I must lovingly contend for the faith that was once for all delivered to His saints.

Our theology of love, death, sacrifice and giving becomes awfully skewed when we think that we are worthy of Christ’s sufferings and sacrifice, when we consider ourselves worthy for somebody to risk their lives to save us from a falling/burning building, when we feel we deserve somebody to get something from somebody. Our understanding of God becomes twisted towards apostasy and heresy when we think we are worthy of the Lord submitting to the Father’s wrath in our place.

Master of Divinity: Biblical and Theological Studies

I can’t believe I’m thinking about changing my M.Div concentration already… and I’m over 4 months away from starting school! Ahhhhhhh!! I’m thinking about the M.Div “North American Church Planting” in the Billy Graham School of Missions, Evangelism and Church Growth. I just checked & found there’s a form to fill out to change degree concentrations! Hope they don’t hate me for switching..

I just don’t know if I can take all the Greek and Hebrew and Bible studying–even though that’s all great and edifying… I’m just thinking hard about WHAT God really wants me to do. Preach expository sermons: yes, contend for the faith and contextualize to the culture: yes, start and build a church - yes! What do You want me to do?!

I’m currently enrolled in Southern Seminary’s School of Theology’s M.Div - Biblical and Theological Studies concentration:

Lessons Learned

There’s some things that I regret,
Some words I wish had gone unsaid,
Some starts that had some better endings,
Been some bad times I’ve been through,
Damage I cannot undo,
Some things I wish I could do all all over again,
But it don’t really matter,
Life gets that much harder,
It makes you that much stronger

Oh, some pages turned,
Some bridges burned,
But there were lessons learned.

And every tear that had to fall from my eyes,
Everyday I wonder how I get through the night,
Every change life has thrown me,
I’m thankful for every break in my heart,
I’m grateful for every scar
Some pages turned, some bridges burned,
But there were lessons learned.

Shaped by the Cross (IV)

This is Part 4 of my personal testimony and my spiritual autobiography.

3. Call to Ministry

In retrospect, those two years coordinating worship at CCF was a time in the trenches in which God was molding me into a better spiritual leader. I made lots of mistakes along the way and was far from perfect, but still, God used all my good and bad experiences to teach me what true worship was, what true humility involved, and what genuine mentorship required. In the midst of mentoring the next Worship Coordinator of CCF, I also began feeling a call from God towards a leading a larger ministry and taking a greater responsibility. Through Campus Challenge, the yearly campus ministry conference run by Ambassadors for Christ for Southern Ontario CCFs, God opened a door for me to be the Worship Coordinator for the conference.
