Thanks for checking out my Flickr page and favourit-ing two photos! I’m glad that you like them!
I was really happy that I was able to grab a shot of the cross that night. They turned the spot lights off soon after the “late nite” session ended. The opportunity to catch the cross’ light and the reflection it made on the water would have been lost. Literally after I shot it, the lights were turned off. I didn’t even get a chance to recompose and re-shoot.
The Glory in the Highest shot is again another lucky moment of being able to shoot the perfect moment. With so many holy hands raised up towards Him, it’s always difficult to get the perfect framing needed to get the lyrics at the centre and people’s hands framing the text. The only thing I don’t like about the shot is that I had to choose to manually focus on the hands (or else there would have been no definition to them and they would just look like clumps) and forfeit the sharpness of the text on the screen (”Glory in the highest” looks like it’s almost bleeding white). A deeper field of view would have fixed it, but by decreasing the shutter speed, the shot would have been lost
I hope you’re enjoying your tripod! I have yet to get a really nice ball-bearing tripod, a bounce flash (looking at the SB-800), and more lenses (probably at least a faster lens).
